As we celebrate the new year, we have a natural opportunity to assess where we’re at. I tend to focus on what’s not working and come up with multiple resolutions on what I want to ‘fix’ in the coming year. What if I took a different approach? Why not look at what IS working, what helps me excel, what gives our team or our company a competitive advantage?

Here are three simple questions to highlight our strengths.

1. What were the qualities of our biggest successes in the last year? Think back to how our customers won, how our team grew our skills through our successes.

2. How did we make our goals and strategies come alive? Take a look at the teamwork we nurtured, our communication methods, our team development activities. What worked best? What was the most fun and impactful? What got folks engaged?

3. How did we celebrate our accomplishments? It’s powerful for a team to pause, reflect, and recalibrate. There are highs, lows, and laughable moments to learn from. Did we take the opportunity to deepen our connection to our team? What values did we celebrate; what feedback did we share?

Tom Peters says, “Celebrate what you want to see more of.” When we shine a light on our wins, the path to heightened success illuminates itself for us and our teams.

Happy New Year!
